Matthew Taylor
Music Theory
Matthew Taylor is a composer, performer and educator currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition within the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Formerly a Sony Music recording artist, Matthew has been involved in music since the age of nine, when he began playing saxophone.
Matthew’s current musical life also includes his duties as a University of Miami Frost School of Music Lecturer in Music Theory, a composer, a frequent collaborator with dancers and artists in the Miami area, and as a performer with the avant-garde improvisational group, Fridamusiq, which he cofounded.
Matthew’s approach to teaching is influenced by his love for improvisation and experience-based learning. Students are encouraged to not only study and practice, but to also improve as musicians through the use of their intuition.
