Desiree Bannister, CAP Saturday Music Classes Music Theory Teaching Assistant, “cannot be more excited to be joining the CAP family!” From Montclair, New Jersey, Desiree is pursuing a degree in jazz vocal performance and music business and entertainment industries at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. There, she is a member of Downbeat magazine’s award-winning Jazz Vocal 1 ensemble.

Desiree has worked with artists such as Gretchen Parlato and Cyrille Aimée. She recently interned at Jazz House Kids, the only community arts organization in New Jersey exclusively dedicated to educating children through jazz, founded by jazz artists Melissa Walker and Christian McBride. Desiree also had fulfilling musical theater training throughout her involvement in Montclair High School’s School of the Visual and Performing Arts, with roles in Hairspray, Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, and Miss Saigon. In addition, Desiree was a four-year member of the school’s non-profit completely student-run a cappella group, with which she recorded four albums and held the position of Musical Director in her senior year.

Desiree has combined her love of music with her love of children. She has taught art and music at several camps in Manhattan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Desiree looks forward to continuing this in Florida, with CAP!
