Matthew Taylor, Music Theory

Matthew Taylor is a composer, performer and educator who recently graduated from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Formerly a Sony Music recording artist, Matthew has been involved in music since the age of nine, when he began playing saxophone. His current musical life includes his duties as University of Miami Frost School of Music Lecturer in Music Theory, composer, frequent collaborator with dancers and artists in the Miami area, and as a performer with the avant-garde improvisational group, Fridamusiq, which he cofounded. Matthew’s approach to teaching is influenced by his love for improvisation and experience-based learning. Students are encouraged to not only study and practice, but to also improve as musicians through the use of their intuition.
